Green cardamom is a spice which is native in the general region of India, as well as countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Nepal and Pakistan.

It is included in the list of the most expensive spices in the world, only surpassed in value per kilo by vanilla and saffron. It has a very distinctive taste and strong odor. Cardamom nicely compliments dishes with boiled or roasted fish, poultry, boiled potatoes and even fresh lettuce and cabbage salads. It is also commonly used in traditional Greek and Turkish roasted coffee to enhance the taste as well as in the authentic Indian chai recipe.

Traditionally, it is said that soldiers consumed the seeds before battle, to gain strength and courage. It comes to no surprise that the translation of the spice's name in Greek means “to invigorate”. In ancient Egypt, it was used as a fragrance by perfume makes in the process of perfume making.
